The history of Hokkai High School can be traced back to the Hokkai English School which was established in 1885. Throughout its history, the school's motto has been to cultivate a spirit of indomitable strength and sturdiness appropriate to the severe climate of Hokkaido.

Following the adoption of a coeducational system in 1999, Hokkai High School has intensified its aim of developing both the scholastic and the sporting potential of its students, nurturing a spirit of independence and a sense of justice as well as an aspiration for peace.

Hokkai High School works to prepare its students to act decisively and with self-confidence in their future endeavors guided by the mental strength they have acquired. Its graduates continue to make significant contributions to their professions and to Japanese society as a whole.
